The Art of Finding a Story

Divinatory Arts are esoteric disciplines that sit at the crossroads of art, ritual, and psychology. They are structured systems for imposing a coherent narrative onto the apparent chaos of the universe. The diviner is an artist whose medium is probability, and whose subject is the future.

  • Astrology: The art of reading the story of the stars. An astrologer charts the movement of celestial bodies to create a [Natal Chart] for an individual or a [Prognostication] for a future event. In the world of ATET, where celestial bodies can have their own Eidos resonance, this is not mere superstition. A skilled astrologer’s predictions can grant a tangible [Confidence] buff or provide cryptic but useful clues for an upcoming Quest.
  • Cartomancy: The art of using a symbolic deck of cards or plates to create a narrative reading. The specific cards drawn are random, but the art is in the interpretation; the weaving of a coherent story from the symbolic images. A reading can provide a [Foresight] buff, warning a character of a specific type of danger ([Betrayal], [Violence]) they might face in the near future.
  • Scrying: The art of gazing into a reflective or chaotic surface (fire, water, static) to find meaningful patterns. This is the most subjective and dangerous form of divination, with a high risk of the scryer simply projecting their own fears and desires onto the medium.
