Fade into a scene of distant, dim stars, with the occasional blob forming but no overall structure. An isometric grid appears over the dim stars, line by line. Then, small particles begin to form in the 3D space above this grid. Soon, the particles coalesce and you are presented with the image of a galaxy. The galaxy is rotating fast enough to be perceptible, but the motion is subtle. After a few moments, the dim background stars begin moving and becoming brighter, eventually forming the words Anamnesis: The Eidolon Tapestries. The last star in this sequence appears to emit a shooting star, which leaves a trail, initially fading but then remaining as the star comes closer to camera and forms a large area of whitespace over top of the galaxy rendering. Hand-written words appear along the visible portion of the trail, speaking directly to the player.
Choose carefully the threads you choose to pull from the grand tapestries; fates as grand as these coil terribly once unraveled.
… what do you seek?
A menu appears in the newly-formed whitespace created by the shooting star.

… you are not yet prepared …
This is because you must first experience Anamnesis and accumulate enough Eidos, or manually enable it by changing the Balance.
Perhaps you change the Balance, but with no Eidos, you eventually land on your first taste of Anamnesis. If you have no existing Incarnations, a new one will manifest for you. As you have not yet accumulated Eidos, this initial Incarnation will be entirely random; but remember: Every Tapestry is a fragile web of Fact, Fiction, and Faith. Every Incarnation named in it is a living Thread that can either strengthen it, or lead to its unraveling.
What happens from here is up to fate. You may find yourself born into a noble family. Or perhaps you are a blue collar captain of a freighter, moving bulk goods between your homeworld and some distant outpost. Maybe you’re a pirate, or a hero, or a slave. Where you go from there is up to you. It is almost inevitable you will die. The bulk Thread of this first Tapestry was crafted from a harsh fiber and most living them will experience a short, difficult life. But through weaving your first Incarnation into this dark fabric, you may gain your first Eidos.
You might find yourself born into a life of quiet anonymity, or perhaps thrust directly into the maelstrom of galactic history. It’s possible your incarnation begins not with a peaceful childhood, but in the immediate aftermath of a starship crash, the vessel critically damaged and its crew scattered across an alien world. You are among the few survivors, a newly minted xeno-botanist; a designation that immediately grants you a small Fact about this particular species and their knack for understanding alien flora.
As you struggle to find your bearings, communicating with the other survivors, you might learn of their home system’s political factions and the cause of the crash, or perhaps of a critical flaw in ship designs from a rival corporation. You will certainly learn the names of your people, and if you last more than a breath, you may glean some basics of survival. Each new face, each desperate discovery, each interaction with the strange, bioluminescent plants of this world, deepens your understanding of this Tapestry’s harsh realities and complex interwoven narratives.
Then finally, on a certain fateful day, you discover something too late. One of the local mushroom species is releasing toxic spores, and you find yourself powerless to help as the community of survivors you helped foster suffocates. Your only consolation is that you do not have to outlive your children.
These journeys, however long or arduous, are how you accrue your first Eidos: You experience what it is to be alive.
Simple fragments of the truth, whispers of history; the raw, unvarnished Facts of existence. With each uncovered, your capabilities for crafting Incarnations grow more elaborate. And even here, within the most primal of Tapestries, you might stumble upon whimsical Fictions, and stringent Faiths; be they myths, legends, grand deceptions, or simple credence. Each of these is a potent seed for crafting a new and more intricate Tapestry, should you ever ascend to Eidolon.
