This species bridges the gap between choice and destiny. They believe that true artistry is not in creating a new story, but in finding a dormant, powerful, mythic archetype and consciously offering oneself as its next perfect vessel. Their creative agency is expressed through the choice of which destiny to inhabit. They are professional hosts for forgotten myths.

Physiology & Biology

Their “base” form is often described as pale or “unfinished,” like an unpainted canvas. When they commit to a mythic role (a process called “The Invocation”), their physiology subtly shifts to better match the archetype. A Vassal invoking the “Last Guardian” might find their frame hardening and their senses sharpening. This change is not as dramatic as a Chymist’s, but is a tangible, physical alignment with a narrative.

Psychology & Society (Faith / Fiction)

Core Faith: They believe the Tapestry has a finite number of truly powerful stories, and their sacred duty is to ensure these great patterns do not fade from existence. A life lived outside of a mythic role is seen as a wasted, meaningless life.

Core Fiction: Their culture revolves around “The Great Library of Echoes,” a conceptual or psychic space where they believe all archetypal stories reside. Their scholars, or “Myth-Diviners,” spend their lives trying to read this library to identify which stories are “sleeping” and need a new host.

Gameplay Hooks & Tensions

Awakening for a Myth-Vassal might involve choosing a “patron myth” that grants them a starting Quest and a set of thematic abilities and weaknesses.

A central conflict is the risk of the myth overwhelming the host. A player might struggle to maintain their individuality against the “narrative gravity” of the powerful role they’ve chosen. Can you play the role of “The Tyrant” without becoming one?

A unique late-game ability might be to find two fading myths and attempt to Craft a “Synthetic Invocation,” a dangerous Ritual to fuse them into a new, hybrid archetype.
