The Erasure Poets

The truest story is what remains when all lies are erased.

Core Concept

The Redactors resolve the conflict between meaning and silence by treating truth as a process of purification through subtraction. They believe the universe is a beautiful, singular Fact that has been buried under a cacophony of noisy, contradictory Fictions. Their purpose is not to create new stories, but to find the truth by carefully and artfully erasing what is false. They are cosmic editors, and their art is redaction.

Physiology & Biology

Their physical form is paradoxical. They might appear as humanoid voids or shadows, their bodies defined not by what is there, but by the light and sound they selectively nullify. A Redactor in a noisy room doesn’t just block sound; they create a pocket of perfect, meaningful silence around themselves.

Psychology & Society (Faith / Fiction)

Core Faith: They are not nihilists; they are the ultimate purists. They see the Choral as creators of beautiful but ultimately misleading noise. The Redactors believe their sacred duty is to listen to a narrative, identify its core Fact, and prune away the rest.

Core Fiction: They don’t have stories; they have “Un-tellings.” Their most revered cultural artifacts are famous epic poems or scriptures from other cultures that have been redacted down to a single, perfect, and devastatingly true sentence.

Gameplay Hooks & Tensions

A Redactor Incarnation would have a unique and powerful ability in Converse or Interpret: the power to [Redact]. When an NPC tells them a story or states a Belief, the player could choose to “erase” a key word or phrase. This act of narrative surgery could fundamentally alter the NPC’s Memory or Faith.

Their Quests might involve hunting down dangerous, world-destabilizing Fictions and performing Rituals of unmaking to erase them from the Tapestry. They are the agents of narrative hygiene.
