The Hushers
…
Core Concept
Where the Choral perceive reality as a symphony of meaning, the Static-Born are a living embodiment of entropy and anti-meaning. Their existence does not create sound or resonance, but actively nullifies it. They are a living “jamming field” for narrative.
Physiology & Biology
Their physical form is difficult to perceive directly, often appearing as a localized distortion in space, a patch of “visual static,” or a humanoid shape made of television snow. They do not consume matter, but seem to feed on raw information or symbolic resonance, leaving places they inhabit feeling “drained” of meaning.
Psychology & Society (Faith / Fiction)
Core Faith: They have no Faith in the traditional sense, as belief itself is a form of narrative resonance they oppose. Their driving principle could be described as an “Ontological Imperative to Silence.” They seek to smooth out the “noisy” wrinkles of meaning in the Tapestry.
Core Fiction: They do not tell stories; they un-tell them. An encounter with a Static-Born might cause an Incarnation to forget a key Memory or find a cherished Belief drained of its emotional power.
Gameplay Hooks & Tensions
A Static-Born would be a terrifying and unique antagonist. They cannot be persuaded or intimidated, as they are immune to the social tools that rely on shared meaning. Violence against them might be ineffective, as the very “story” of the attack is nullified. Defeating them would require finding a form of “meta-narrative” weapon; a paradox, a self-referential joke, or a burst of pure, un-creatable chaos.
They are an existential threat to species like the Choral or the Oneiroi, as their mere presence could corrupt the Great Chant or unravel the Dreaming.
